Theorem of Education

3(R) + 3(C) = 4E∞

3(Reading, ‘Riting, ‘Rithmetic) + 3(Curiosity + Critical Thinking + Compassion) = 4(Education, Ethos, Empathy, Engagement) Infinity

Simplified:

Content + Skills = Lifelong Learning

Show your reasoning.

Reading, writing, and arithmetic—the primary building blocks of learning. We learn to read so we can read to learn. We learn to write so we can write to communicate and express ourselves. We learn math so we can calculate and understand the science of numbers, quantity, and space. These three content areas inform and serve as the foundation of all learning.

Curiosity—we need a sense of wonderment, to ask why, how. To investigate. To try, fail, try a different way. It is the desire to know, to learn something.

Critical Thinking—It is one thing to know stuff. It is next level to consider the relationships, the interconnectedness, the complexities, how to solve the problem, to rationalize, to reason. We must analyze and evaluate.

Compassion—To consider others and desire what is best for the greater good; to be a positive contributor to society; to desire betterment and improvement for oneself and others. We need to be more than self-centered; we must be society centered.

When combined you have lifelong learning. Learning that is filled with:

Education—It is an enlightening experience that never ends. There is always more to learn.

Ethos—The definition of your spirit manifested in your beliefs, your inspirations, your actions. It defines your trustworthiness, your credibility, your respect, your expertise, and your reputation.

Empathy—To consider others as well as yourself. To understand others and as a result the impact of actions on them. To understand a point of view different from your own.

Engagement—Be a participant, be involved, do something, be something, a contributor.

Imagine if education today was reimagined with this formula as its blueprint.
